چکیده

Abttract: The Relation Between Cerebral Oxygen Consumption and Cerebral Vascular Reactivity to Carbon Dioxide • The mechanisms whereby C02 affects cerebral vessels are not as simple as once thought,' and are probably both directly on cerebral vascular walls' * and indirectly by action on brain stem neurones. Furthermore, cerebral vascular reactivity to CO2 has been reported to be altered by a number of physiological and pathological circumstances. The capacity to dilate to increased Pa€0o is decreased in cerebral vascular lesions, and is affected by changes in cerebral perfusion pressure. Cervical sympathectomy is said to increase CBF response to Paoo2 changes, whereas sympathetic nerve stimulation abolishes reactivity to CO2. 10 Deep anesthesia, hypothermia, or trauma to brain reduces reactivity to cerebral vessels to CO2, the one common denominator for these states being reduced cerebral metabolism. This report demonstrates that the capacity of cerebral vessels to dilate or constrict in response to changes in Pa^., is influenced by cerebral oxygen consumption.

The relation between retinal and cerebral vascular reactivity in normal and arteriosclerotic subjects.

It has been found that retinal arterial reactivity to oxygen is diminished in persons with retinal arteriosclerosis, and that cerebral blood flow and the increment in cerebral flow upon inhalation of carbon dioxide are diminished in persons with cerebral arteriosclerosis. The present study demonstrates that there is a significant positive correlation between retinal arterial reactivity on the o...

Effects of Althesin on cerebral blood flow and oxygen consumption in man.

Cerebral circulation and metabolism during Althesin anaesthesia were studied in seven healthy patients. Althesin was given in a single dose of 0.1 ml/kg and thereafter infused at a constant rate of 0.3 ml/kg/h. During Althesin infusion, the cerebral blood flow (CBF), the cerebral metabolic rate for oxygen (CMRo2) were 29 +/- 10 ml/100 g/min and 1.7 +/- 0.4 ml/133 g/min, respectively. These valu...

Monitoring cerebral blood flow, oxygen, and glucose metabolism. Analysis of cerebral metabolic disorder in stroke and some therapeutic trials in human volunteers.

More accurate methods for monitoring cerebral blood flow, oxygen, and glucose metabolism with results of their application in human volunteers are described. Subjects with various types of cerebral vascular disease showed decreased cerebral blood flow and oxygen and glucose metabolism but anaerobic glycolysis appeared to be increased. Inhalation of 100% oxygen decreased anaerobic glycolysis, an...

MR Based Quantification of Global Cerebral Metabolic Rate of Oxygen Consumption during Hypercapnia

Introduction: Hypercapnia is a common occurrence in pathophysiologic conditions (e.g. cardio-respiratory disease processes) [1]. Carbon dioxide is a potent cerebral vasodilator. Hypercapnia induced hyper-perfusion is often used as a diagnostic tool to measure cerebral vascular reactivity (CVR) to assess the integrity of cerebral circulation which can be altered in pathophysiological states [2]....
